The Sr. Import/Export Analyst supports global trade operations by ensuring compliance with import and export regulations, analyzing trade data, and optimizing international shipping processes. This role partners closely with logistics, compliance, finance, and external service providers to enable efficient, compliant cross-border trade.
What you will be doing:
- Prepare, review, and maintain import/export documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin, etc.)
- Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs, CBP, FDA, USDA, and international trade regulations
- Classify products using appropriate HS/HTS and Schedule B codes
- Monitor and apply free trade agreements (FTA)
- Coordinate international shipments with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and carriers
- Track shipments and proactively resolve delays, discrepancies, or customs holds
- Ensure shipping transactions are accurately and timely processed to guarantee customer satisfaction
- Establish, monitor, and report on key import/export and logistics performance metrics, including shipment volume, on-time delivery, transportation costs, tariffs, and duties
- Analyze trade data to identify trends, compliance risks, service gaps, and cost-saving opportunities
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by documenting processes, identifying inefficiencies, and recommending enhancements to systems, controls, and workflows
- Assist in the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to trade compliance and logistics operations
- Evolve and maintain department policies and systems in alignment with the company’s goals and objectives
- Identify trends, delays, and service issues and report to manager for carrier feedback and corrective action
- Act as a primary liaison between internal teams and external partners, including carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, 3PL providers, billing service providers, and government agencies
- Provide regular reporting and actionable insights to management to support carrier performance reviews and corrective actions
- Hands-on interaction and problem-solving activities with Carriers, 3rd Party Logistics Providers, Billing Service Providers, Customs and Border Protection and other government and/or regulatory agencies
- Assist in preparation of Hazardous Goods Shipments
- File Claims and cases for lost and damaged shipment
- Work with order management groups in adapting orders to allow them to flow correctly through the system
- Maintain accurate import/export records in accordance with regulatory retention requirements
- Maintain detailed and auditable records of trade transactions in accordance with internal policies and regulatory recordkeeping requirements
Must have for this role:
- Associate’s degree in supply chain, international business, logistics or a related field
- Knowledge of DOT regulations, Schedule B procedures, HTS, Incoterms, Dangerous goods IATA/ICAO, and the preparation of international shipping documentations (invoice, packing list, SED,) required
- Proficient PC skills; Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Working knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems related to supply chain functions
- Knowledge and expertise in domestic and international transportation, warehousing, and reverse logistics
- Demonstrated experience and familiarity with best practices in leading teams supporting transportation, warehousing, packaging and shipping
- Must be ITAR authorized
- Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
- Ability to manage through change and to lead change when appropriate
- Ability to work well with others
Nice to have:
- Experience with TMS or similar trade management systems
- Certification in customs compliance (e.g., CUSECO)
- Knowledge of Incoterms and international shipping documentation
- Working knowledge of customs regulations (e.g., ITAR, EAR, HTS, FDA, TSCA)
- Experience with ACE System and Reporting
- Experience with global freight forwarding and customs brokerage.
- Advanced knowledge using Excel and other software for analytics
- Experience with Duty Drawback filing

For this position, the typical annual starting base salary is from $78,240 to $95,402, which does not include variable incentive pay. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. Your individual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, geographical location, and/or experiences.
