Software Engineer - Toolpath (MakerBot)

At MakerBot, we believe that there is an innovator in everyone! As a Software Engineer on the Toolpather Team at MakerBot, you will be focusing on the algorithms that power the backend of MakerBot CloudPrint. These algorithms take models and generate toolpath files that can then be read by our 3D printers to create precise objects. This team helps bring your prints to life as accurately as possible! The work on this role will be a hybrid role (2 days in the office) and is largely done in C++, along with Python and Node.js. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Write code to implement new pathing / printing techniques.
  • Maintain and improve existing functionality for execution speed and readability.
  • Participate in reviewing code from other members of the team.
  • Improve your programming knowledge base with respect to:
    • Build Systems
    • Debuggers
    • 3D Meshes / Geometries
  • Follow best practices agreed upon by the team.
  • Complete tasks each sprint following Agile methodology

 

Minimum Requirements

 

  • Experience with C++ and use of Templates
  • Experience with Python
  • 2 years of industry experience + a related college degree OR ~4 years of industry experience

 

Nice to Haves

  • Familiarity with Git
  • Basic Linear Algebra and Geometry skills
  • Experience with CMake, C++ Debuggers, Node.js, Pyenv, Docker
  • Experience with C++ optimization strategies / tools
  • Python Scripting / Command Line Interfaces
  • Experience with 3D Mesh formats and libraries
  • Experience with cross-platform development
  • 3D Printing Experience
