Position Description

The Manufacturing Systems Developer supports the development, integration, and optimization of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Industrial Control Systems (ICS) across Stratasys’ global manufacturing environment, with a focus on the MCS MES platform and its integration within the Eden Prairie FDM Center of Excellence. This role combines software development capabilities with hands-on understanding of manufacturing equipment connectivity, industrial communication protocols, and factory-floor operations. The position partners closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Production Operations, Quality, and IT to deliver scalable digital manufacturing solutions that improve traceability, equipment visibility, production data collection, and operational efficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, configure, test, and support MES/MCS applications, workflows, forms, dashboards, and system enhancements that support manufacturing execution and shop-floor operations.
  • Build and maintain electronic work instructions, production data collection points, traceability functions, and user-facing tools that improve operator efficiency and production visibility.
  • Develop and maintain integrations between MES, ERP, PLM, manufacturing equipment, production assets, databases, and automation systems.
  • Support machine connectivity and real-time data acquisition through industrial communication standards and interfaces such as OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, Ethernet/IP, REST APIs, and related technologies.
  • Create and maintain custom applications, services, APIs, database objects, and reporting capabilities that support manufacturing operations and digital manufacturing priorities.
  • Troubleshoot MES-related incidents, investigate root causes, resolve production-impacting issues, and support system stability for critical manufacturing processes.
  • Support Industry 4.0, Smart Factory, and manufacturing digitalization initiatives, including production monitoring, data analytics, process automation, and system modernization efforts.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 2 or more years of applicable work experience supporting or developing Manufacturing Execution Systems, Industrial Control Systems, manufacturing applications, or related software solutions.
  • Experience working in or supporting manufacturing environments, including production workflows, equipment connectivity, and shop-floor data collection.
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases, including data queries, troubleshooting, and manufacturing data analysis.
  • Experience developing software in C++ or comparable programming languages used to support manufacturing operations.
  • Experience integrating systems using APIs, web services, and enterprise platforms such as MES, ERP, PLM, or similar business systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MES platforms such as Siemens, Rockwell, SAP, Tulip, Ignition, NextPlus, MCS, or similar platforms.
  • Experience connecting PLCs, SCADA, automation systems, manufacturing equipment, and production assets to MES platforms.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication standards and protocols, including OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, Ethernet/IP, and REST APIs.
  • Familiarity with industrial automation vendors such as Rockwell and Siemens.
  • Exposure to additive manufacturing, medical devices, aerospace, or other regulated manufacturing industries.
  • Relevant MES, industrial automation, database, software development, or cloud/data certifications.
