The Sr Manager of Test Engineering provides leadership to the R&D Test Engineering team for the FDM product line.  This position is responsible for leading Test Engineers and Test Technicians to efficiently complete testing with high quality.  This role includes leading electro-mechanical, material, and software testing.  In addition to leading people, this role involves high level planning of testing activities, assuring on time completion of testing projects, and driving improvements in testing. 




Plans and leads testing to ensure that high quality, on-time data are provided

  • Attends project team meetings and cross functional meetings to stay up to date on project needs and priorities. 
  • Creates high level test plans. Accurately predicts completion dates and resource needs.  Assigns resources to projects.  Adjusts resources to meet the changing needs/priorities.  Proactively anticipates and resolves issues. 
  • Drives efficient use of machines, employees, test equipment, and other lab resources.
  • Proactively and clearly communicates plans, schedules, and status to stakeholders.  Quickly communicates issues and updates plans to ensure on time completion of testing. 
  • Actively engages with project teams on important topics such as test issues and how to accomplish the team's goals.


Leads the Test Engineering team

  • Effectively hires and trains new employees.  Proactively develops existing employees and assures that the team has a wide range of skills.
  • Meets regularly with employees to check progress, priorities, and issues.  Helps employees to resolve issues as they arise.
  • Retains and motivates employees.  Creates an engaged team.  Rewards and recognizes employees.
  • Provides feedback to employees.  Creates and leads performance reviews.  Deals effectively with employee issues in a timely, respectful manner.


Ensures excellent data quality

  • Reviews test plans and test results to verify quality, consistency, and compliance with processes and ISO requirements.  Ensures that test documentation and procedures are clear, concise, and meet documentation storage processes.
  • Has a working knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Controls, and Materials and uses that knowledge to ensure the correct level of testing is performed. 
  • Ensures that testing and documentation meet ISO requirements.


Drives improvements in testing

  • Drives continuous improvement in test processes, facilities, and equipment.  Stays up to date on new tools and techniques for testing and data analysis.  Anticipates needs for new test technologies, test equipment, and facility changes.  
  • Reviews new test processes and procedures.
  • Drives improvement in the quality of tests, including the use of gage R&Rs and other tools for assessing test error.  Drives the use of statistics in data analysis and presentation.



  • Creates and manages capital and expense budgets.
  • Represents Stratasys in audits (ISO, safety) and ensures that the team is meeting requirements.  Trains the team on ISO requirements and updates processes to meet new requirements.



  • Bachelor’s in engineering or related discipline with a minimum 5+ of related experience; or 3+ years of experience with an advanced degree
  • 10+ years engineering experience
  • 3+ years test experience
  • 3+ years supervisory experience



  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, master’s degree preferred
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication
  • Ability to lead multiple projects at the same time
  • Broad knowledge and experience with test equipment for electro-mechanical and materials testing.
  • Experience designing tests, researching and selecting test equipment, leading technicians, and leading significant test projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.  Ability to work well with others.
  • Experience with statistical and data analysis tools – Minitab, DOE, gage R&R, Excel
  • Advanced Excel experience
  • Previous experience using 3D printers
