The Engineering Technician will create production quality parts for the Mechanical Engineering department during the various project phases.  Direct responsibilities include machining and fabricating parts to include but are not limited to: components for new product development, assembly, test fixtures and design verification test parts for refining our products. This position also works closely with the engineering team(s) on the development of new parts and processes. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Supports R&D engineering environment with various production quality level machined and sheet metal parts through prototype stages and through design verification testing of projects.
  • Capable in designing and fabricating advanced fixtures requested by the engineering and test departments.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks to be able to create fixtures, manipulate models, develop drawings, and convey design considerations to designers and engineers.
  • Expert ability to program, set up, and run; CNC machinery including 3 & 5 axis vertical mills, 2 axis lathes, conversational knee mills
  • Fabrication of work holdings such as soft jaws to maximizes machine usage, increased throughput, and accuracy.
  • Performs accurate manual mill, lathe, and surface grinding work when required.
  • Supports manufacturing operations with disposition rework, jig and fixture creation, and manufacturing line support.
  • Knowledge and interpretation of geometric tolerance standard ANSI 14.5-1994.
  • Understanding of common inspection tools and machines and being able to assist and perform part measurements.
  • Skilled in MIG and TIG welding of carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
  • Well versed in sheet metal fabrication working with press brake, shear, PEMSERTER, waterjet, plasma cutter, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in metallurgy and understanding of heat-treating.
  • Use of FDM 3D printer to create tooling, work holdings, jigs and fixtures.
  • Procures, maintains, and organizes shop supplies and raw stock inventory from sheet metal to bar stock.
  • Tracks and performs scheduled maintenance and repairs on shops equipment.
  • Attend design reviews and provide manufacturability input to the engineering teams.
  • Assist buyers and operations with documentation feedback to purchase parts with external vendors.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of experience in the machining trades.
  • 1+ years of experience in CNC programming of 3 and 5 axis vertical mills (HAAS preferred).
  • 1+ years of experience machining experience on lathes, mills, grinders, and sheet metal equipment (including complex assembly and fabrication).
  • 1+ years of experience CNC waterjet programming and set-up knowledge.
  • Experienced in SolidWorks.
  • Experienced in CAM (HSM Works or Fusion 360 preferred).
  • Welding experience with MIG and TIG on aluminum, steel and stainless.

  • 2-year Technical Degree
  • Continuous desire to learn the many features of the machinery and software packages associated with it.
  • Keeps a clean and organized work environment.
