The world’s leading organizations turn to Stratasys to transform product design, bring agility to manufacturing and supply chains, and improve patient care.

The Materials Engineer will perform technical activities leading to new or improved products or processes that have significant impact on the company. This role is responsible for development and analysis of thermoplastic polymer feedstock materials for Stratasys additive manufacturing systems. The Materials Engineer uses knowledge of polymer structure-process-property relationships and advanced analytical tools to design, optimize, and troubleshoot material formulations. This role works cross-functionally to translate product requirements and technology goals into real, printed parts.

What you will be doing:

Create and/or Analyze Prototype Materials Formulations

  • Utilize wide range of analytical techniques to evaluate polymer thermal, mechanical, and chemical properties.
  • Work with manufacturing engineers, test technicians, and manufacturing equipment operators to prepare and submit work instructions and test requests.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a cross-functional team environment and clearly communicate technical status of assigned projects.

Integrate and Evaluate Materials Performance in Additive Manufacturing Systems

  • Operate additive manufacturing equipment to produce test parts for evaluation of new materials process parameters, or manufacturing techniques.
  • Manipulate and optimize software and hardware parameters of the printers to tailor process conditions to material thermophysical characteristics.
  • Submit suites of test parts to a battery of quantitative and qualitative testing

Work Cross Functionally to Execute Project Goals

  • Work with suppliers and sourcing team to bring new materials and additives in-house while following all purchasing and regulatory procedures.
  • Plan and execute processing or printing experiments using DOE tools to gather materials and part-level performance data.
  • Synthesize and present data to make recommendations on suppliers, formulations, and processing techniques to the broader engineering team.

Must have for this role:

  • Bachelors in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 2+ or related experience; or an advance degree without experience or equivalent work experience
  • 1+yrs experience of polymer and composite thermal and mechanical analysis
  • 1+yrs experience utilizing Design of Experiments (DOE) tools to evaluate material composition and process parameters.
  • Knowledge of polymer structure, process, and property relationships

Nice to have:

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Previous experience using 3D printers.
  • Previous experience in chemical or material formulation
