The Manufacturing Engineer will perform technical activities leading to new or improved products or processes that have significant impact on the company.  This position is directly tied to our center of excellence effort regarding our filament products where significant capital improvements are being made. The position will support and qualify products across many lines and will aid in the introduction of New Product Introduction (NPI) by creating manufacturing processes, qualification plans, line labor balancing, quality and first pass yield metrics, and other related activities. This role will take the lead on manufacturing initiatives providing direction, communication, and ownership.

 

What you will be doing:

New Product and Manufacturing Technology Manufacturing Engineering

  • Interfaces with material, process, test, reliability, supply chain, sourcing, and logistics teams to solve production problem issues and identify improvements in product design and manufacturability
  • Interface with suppliers, sourcing, and design teams for development of standards, processes, and instrumentation (SPI) and qualify external production materials
  • Develops and sustains process improvements to reduce production costs and increase yields
  • IQOQPQ work on the introduction of new capital equipment to the site
  • Understanding of scaling process for new technology and the development of process requirements to be able to qualify efficiently against product requirements
  • Makes recommendations for changes in the selection and application of components, materials and systems. May propose changes in design or formulation to improve system and/or process reliability
  • Creates, reviews, and updates assembly and work procedures to ensure standardization and  in documented to meet specifications
  • May lead work with other teams on process improvement initiatives
  • Will drive communication, understanding, and ownership as it relates to process improvements and requirements for new product introduction
  • Identify testing opportunities to ensure higher line productivity and higher yield due to a greater ability to meet product requirements
  • Provide feedback regarding BOM structure including manufacturing requirements for strategic assembly and/or manufacturing design
  • Ability to analyze prototype and production data to develop root cause, understand process control limits and out of control processes, determine and understand failure modes
  • Develop process improvement fixtures through the use of CAD and ability to then qualify the fixture itself showing process cycle time improvements or cost savings
  • Ability to develop production line setups for new products and platforms and build in improvements over the course of the project. This does include the analysis of the CapEx requirements and then submission of CapEx projects for approval
  • Heavy application to center of excellence (COE) initiative within Stratasys – the outlines and initiatives when applying to updated manufacturing technology introduction should provide core team guidance to drive the overall program
  • Will be critical member regarding new product and new technology introduction into the overall program

Manufacturing Engineering

  • Develops, implements and reviews methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacturing of filament including compounding and extrusion
  • Makes recommendations for tooling and process improvements existing product lines to increase efficiency and reduce costs. Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations
  • Ownership of value streams to ensure adherence to process standards and process windows
  • Ownership of said values through engineering change order process globally and insurance of correct qualification requirements
  • Use of appropriate risk assessments and statistical understanding to provide guidance on requirements for qualification, source of supply changes, and other changes within process
  • Align with engineering and operations employees regarding technical information, manufacturing processes, and manufacturing requirements to help improve future state on standardization

Must have for this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in materials science or other related discipline
  • 2+ years of related experience in materials and/or process engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in a scale-up of processes from lab to plant
  • Experience with capacity conducting and analyzing process trials that deliver quality products

Nice to have for this role:

  • Extrusion and/or Plastic Processing and/or Filament Manufacturing Experience
    • Compounding, extrusion, co-extrusion , profile extrusion,  pelletizing, drying, plastics, polymers, monomers, fillers, additives, process control
  • PLCM and new product introduction experience
  • Statistical analysis, quantitative and analytical problem-solving ability including but not limited to Application and use of LEAN/Six Sigma tools, Experience with DoEs (Design of experiments) and Minitab/or equivalent, MS Projects and BI tools (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau, etc.)
  • Individual should be a self-starter with the ability to work in a fast change, high paced manufacturing environment
  • Ability to use SolidWorks and/or CAD software for fixture design is a plus
  • Green belt or equivalent LSS experience is a plus

Travel required: 10% domestic
