The International Trade Compliance Specialist holds a pivotal position in guiding, facilitating, coordinating, monitoring, and optimizing our company's global business activities. The primary responsibilities include ensuring strict compliance with international trade regulations, actively contributing to the development of market strategies, and providing expert guidance on import and export operations. In this key role, you will play a crucial part in helping our organization effectively navigate the complexities of international commerce and expand its presence in global markets.

 

The position involves close collaboration with government agencies, external advisory firms, and trade associations to stay ahead of regulatory changes and industry trends. With a focus on a worldwide footprint and an extensive install base, the incumbent will lead the international trade compliance strategy on a global scale for our company.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversight of FTAs Worldwide (30%):

  • Research and investigate all relevant FTAs for company trade lanes.
  • Maximize duty-free trade capabilities.
  • Periodically review FTA compliance across the company's portfolio.
  • Support sourcing team with recommendations for improved procurement structure.

Manage Import Clearance and HS Code Classification (25%):

  • Overall responsibility for the company's Harmonized Codes.
  • Maintain a reliable database of all shippable items.
  • Explore alternative classifications to reduce duties.
  • Monitor and audit entries for accurate customs clearance.
  • Ensure compliance with all trade regulations (licenses, shipping documents, registrations, etc.).

Duties Drawback (10%):

  • Globally monitor duties drawback processes.
  • Explore ways to expand the scope of duties drawback and reduce third-party fees.

Export Control (10%):

  • Review and maintain the Export Control database.
  • Support Export Control approvals.

Entries Value Reconciliation (10%):

  • Support annual customs entries reconciliation.
  • Collaborate with customs brokers and the finance team to submit adjusted values.

Knowledge POC (15%):

  • Build strong relationships with governmental agencies, trade advisory firms, and carriers.
  • Stay up to date with international trade changes and trends, documenting in the company's internal database.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff and partners to ensure understanding of international trade regulations and best practices.

 

Must have for this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Business Administration, or equivalent or similar discipline
  • 5+ Years’ experience with international trade regulations and customs procedures.
  • 3+ Years of experience in a similar position in a global company

Nice to have:

  • Experience in advisory firms
  • Experience with customs and other governmental audits
