Director, Operations

Summary:  Overall operations and quality responsibility for the Wallace Road facility in SDMResponsible for driving and meeting quality, on-time delivery, and margin targets to facilitate the business unit’s aggressive growth plan.  Responsibility includes production, purchasing, quality, and inter-company partnership management.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (Other duties may be assigned):

 

Operations:

  • Direct and lead operations and quality functions to exceed customer expectations with regard to quality and delivery with special recognition to the business unit’s strategic accounts.
  • Develop and properly implement best-practice processes and infrastructure to support the current plan while being scalable to support future growth.
  • Oversees processes and infrastructure in accordance with maintaining ISO9001 and AS9100 certification standards.  Leverage processes and infrastructure for pursuit of potential future certifications.
  • Management representative for AS9100 certification and on-going maintenance.
  • Track, report, analyze, and adjust to key performance indicators on a weekly and monthly basis.  Perform detailed root cause analysis and prescribe appropriate counter-measures when performance indicators are off-track.
  • Create and manage annual operations budget as defined annually.
  • Manage cost of goods, expense and labor budgets to established guidelines and budgets.
  • Offer expertise in additive manufacturing technologies, assisting with solutions and acting as an internal resource to SDM employees.
  • Participates and supports in company planning and development meetings/activities as needed.
  • Serve as a key leader in the SDM business and encourages, implements, or recommends to the management team growth or capital expenditures and opportunities for an improved customer experience.
  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment.

 

Management:

  • Develop talent and a sense of team across operations and quality for improved productivity.
  • Drive crystal clear communications across operations through daily, weekly, and monthly mechanisms.
  • Successfully partner with Stratasys’ corporate functions to integrate knowledge and best practices.
  • Recommend and advocate cross-functional strategies to support growth and improve the customer experience to SDM management where necessary.
  • Selects, directs, coaches and mentors team. Develops standards of team performance and sets annual performance objectives. Evaluates and ensures the quality and accuracy of employees’ work product and that the team meets performance goals within designated time frame

 

Quality:

  • Drive significant yield and cost of quality improvements through detailed analysis of non-conformances along with implementing clearly defined action plans to promote improvement.
  • Drives continual process improvements and implements best practices to manage team and projects effectively.

 

Customer Support

  • Pro-actively solve customer facing issues across all functions.
  • Assist the sales team, including technical questions, sales samples and general account support.

 

Other

Essential Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Candidate must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or manufacturing, MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years’ experience in operations or production environment in a supervisory or management role; of which at least 5 years must be in an ISO-certified environment.  Experience in a contract manufacturing or job shop environment is desired.
  • Strong leadership, planning, team-building, communication, and execution skills required.
  • Demonstrated success driving change resulting in on-time delivery, quality, margin, and customer satisfaction improvements required.
  • Demonstrated success implementing continuous improvement principles required.
  • Experience with AS9100 and other certifications desirable.
  • Experience with additive manufacturing technologies desirable.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills required.
  • Must have good computer skills and be able to utilize standard office applications as well as other programs as may be required to properly conduct this position.
  • Ability to work well with others.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of approximately 40-50 people across Operations, with 5-7 direct reports.

 

Physical/Environmental Requirements:

  • Works in a pleasant office environment with other department staff, utilizing a computer workstation and various software applications. Specific work schedule is coordinated with direct supervisor.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. 
  • Travel requirement:  Occasional travel required.
