Mechanical Test Engineer (MakerBot)

MakerBot is looking for a Mechanical Test Engineer to support our Testing Engineering Manager. Mechanical test engineers architect, design, and test hardware systems for MakerBot 3D printers.


As Mechanical Test Engineer, you will:

  • Research and evaluate next generation technologies and materials
  • Work cross-functionally with Mechanical, Electrical, Firmware, Toolpath, and Operations teams.
  • Write and execute system level tests and analyze resulting data
  • Expand materials offering by developing, testing and analyzing material performance 
  • Mentor, delegate and review work assignments of junior and staff team members
  • Diagnose and correct issues that arise during testing. Propose and implement solutions and validate changes
  • Build prototypes and test fixtures
  • Perform root cause analysis on failed units
  • Support the development of new product platforms


Minimum Qualifications: :

  • Attained an undergraduate college degree in an engineering discipline
  • Minimum 2 years of demonstrated experience in a relevant field or graduate school work in lieu of experience


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with conventional electrical and mechanical test equipment such as multimeter, oscilloscope, micrometer, calipers, CMM, Ardunio, Labview, etc.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, C, C++, or JavaScript and an understanding of computer system architecture
  • Strong mechanical fabrication skills with tools such as a rotary tools (Dremel), lathe or vertical mills
  • Familiarity with electrical fabrication tools such as soldering soldering iron and hot air station
  • Experience with mechanical and electrical CAD tools such as Solidworks and Altium
  • Willingness to learn new skills and take on complex challenges.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.
