In this role: you will perform technical activities leading to new or improved products or processes that have significant impact on the company.  This role takes the lead on testing large projects and leads multiple projects at the same time. This role proactively and independently creates test plans, develops new tests and equipment, improves tests and equipment, evaluates and communicates results, and leads testing activities to assure the quality of our products.

 

What you will be doing:

 

Performs testing to assure that products meet their specifications and will perform successfully in the field.

  • Leads testing and creates test plans for large projects.  Accurately predicts completion dates and resource needs.  Prioritizes testing to meet the needs of the team.
  • Leads Test Technicians on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Independently resolves issues with tests, test equipment, and test data.
  • Sets up and uses complex test equipment (e.g., Romer, Laser Tracker).
  • Acts as a subject matter expert in at least one test area
  • Sets up DOEs and non-destructive Gage R&Rs.  Uses Minitab/statistics.  Uses multiple data analysis tools. 

 

Drives improvements in testing

  • Proactively and independently creates new tests using existing equipment.
  • Researches test methods and equipment.  Recommends/purchases and creates new test equipment.
  • Stays up to date on new test equipment. 
  • Proactively improves our tests and equipment.
  • Assesses and improves test error using non-destructive gage R&Rs.

 

Provides high quality, clear documentation and communicates effectively

  • Analyzes data and clearly communicates tests results, issues, and status.
  • Writes clear test procedures to document how testing is performed.
  • Writes test reports that document test results.  Organizes test reports and data for easy retrieval.
  • Consistently follows procedures for documentation and document storage and assures that all testing and documentation meet ISO requirements.
  • Uses Minitab statistics when presenting data.

 

Collaborates and works cross functionally with team members

  • Anticipates and meets needs of the project team.
  • Proactively communicates schedule, budget, and status.
  • Actively engages with the project team on important topics such as test issues and how to accomplish the team's goals
  • Coordinates with other team leads and team members to resolve test issues and provide technical information.

 

Must have for this role: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related discipline with a minimum 5+ years of related experience; or 3+ years of experience with an advance degree or PhD without experience or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years engineering experience
  • 3+ years test experience

 

Nice to have:

  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication
  • Ability to lead multiple projects at the same time
  • Broad knowledge and experience with test equipment for electro-mechanical and materials testing.
  • Experience designing tests, researching and selecting test equipment, leading technicians, and leading significant test projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.  Ability to work well with others.
  • Experience with statistical and data analysis tools – Minitab, DOE, gage R&R
  • Advanced Excel experience
  • Vibration testing experience

 

Travel Requirements: 5%
