What we need:

Stratasys (RPS in the UK) are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Stereolithography R&D team based in Aylesbury, UK.  This exciting role will contribute to the design and development of current and next generation products. This role is ideally suited to an organised, proactive, and self-motivated individual with a systematic approach to design, research and development, and who genuinely thrives in a dynamic and forward-thinking environment.  It will provide a diverse, stimulating, and unique opportunity for the right candidate.

 

In this role:

As a member of the R&D team, you will perform self-initiated or assigned technical projects leading to innovative applications and extensions of existing and new products and technologies of major importance to Stratasys.

 

What you will be doing:

  • Design and development of new and existing products
  • Produce detailed drawings for fabrication and assembly
  • Generation and management of BOMs
  • Interface with outside vendors for component selection, manufacturing, and assembly
  • Research and analyse design proposals, specifications, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications
  • Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications
  • Confer with system engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve product malfunctions, and provide technical information
  • Project based activities, working individually and frequently as part of a team across company departments both in the UK and internationally
  • Develop and manage effective project plans based on specified requirements, along with team members, identifying necessary activities, resources, timescales, producing a schedule of deliverables to achieve goals and commitments
  • Testing and evaluation work
  • Gain necessary knowledge and understanding through study
  • Give regular process updates
  • Implement or handover solutions

 

Must have for this role:

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in relevant discipline, plus minimum of 2-3 years of proven experience in mechanical design / R&D environment, or equivalent industry experience

 

Skills & Competencies

  • Experience in sheet metal fabrication, machining & weldments
  • Experience in material selection, tolerancing and surface finishes
  • Good understanding of design for manufacturability and knowledge of manufacturing technologies
  • Experience in producing detailed drawings for manufacture
  • Inquisitive and natural desire to learn

  • Capability to quickly grasp new concepts and technologies

Experience (preferred):

  • Design of 3D printing or high-end industrial equipment
  • Experience in CAD software – SolidWorks an advantage
  • Experience in PDM / PLM tools, Agile and advantage.
  • Electrical knowledge would be beneficial
  • Experience in Stereolithography, DLP, other photopolymer 3D Printing technologies
  • Active interest in polymer 3D printing

 

Travel required: 5%. No essential travel but there may be opportunities to visit sites etc
